Frighteningly Alarming Questions
Below are the Rules of the Zone. Please find a litany of our most monstrous ... we mean, "frequently", asked questions. The Scream Zone is designed to scare the "yell" out of you but, as always, we hope a little useful information will help you have a safe and enjoyable Scream Zone experience!
What are The Scream Zone hours?
Open 7:00PM-midnight on Friday and Saturday nights and 7:00PM-11:00PM all other nights. Gates open at 6:45PM. Attractions open at 7:00PM.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
When I provide my personal information when purchasing tickets, what do you do with it?
The Del Mar Fairgrounds does not sell or distribute data we collect during the ticket purchasing process. We do use your data to facilitate the purchase of your ticket, and to contact you regarding specific Del Mar Fairgrounds related activities thereafter. When you purchase your tickets for The Scream Zone, you will be transferred to a secure website. All personal information, including credit card information, is secured.
How many times may I print my ticket(s)?
You may reprint a ticket as many times as necessary (in case of printer failure or if you misplace your ticket, for instance). Do not otherwise duplicate your purchased ticket: the ticket is honored only once. The first scanned ticket to arrive at the event will be allowed entry, while any subsequent ticket, with the same code, will be denied access. Each ticket is for single use and admits only one person.
What is your refund and exchange policy?
All ticket sales are final. There are no refunds or exchanges.
Do you have group discounts?
Yes. Please visit the Group Sales page for ordering information.
Do you offer military discounts?
Yes, at military base ticket offices only. For more information, visit thescreamzone.com/military.
Are there discounts for children, students, or seniors?
No. All tickets are priced the same regardless of age.
Is there an age limit for the Zombie Paintball Safari?
We recommend patrons be 12-years of age or older. Children ages 10 or 11 must be accompanied by an adult. A ticket must be purchased for all adults and their children. Patrons will not be allowed to bring their own paint balls or paint ball equipment including guns.
Do children and infants need tickets?
All patrons entering the haunted attractions need tickets, however, The Scream Zone isn't suitable for children younger than 10.
Do you sell tickets through other websites or agencies?
No. Ticket brokers and individuals may resell Scream Zone tickets at inflated prices, but we do not guarantee their authenticity, nor do we extend ticket services, such as reprints, exchanges, or will call to third-party purchases.
What is your inclement weather policy?
If we are closed due to inclement weather, your ticket will still be valid on any other day we are open. A closure notice will be posted on our website.
Do you charge for parking? Where do I park?
No, we don't anticipate charging for parking. Please use our main gate off Jimmy Durante Blvd. to access the parking lot and entrance to The Scream Zone.
How long are queue wait times?
It depends. At the beginning of The Scream Zone (in September and early October) and during the week, there is typically very little wait time, maybe 10–15 minutes. At the end of the month, nearer Halloween, and on Fridays and Saturdays, it can be as long as 2 hours. The closer you come to our opening time (7:00PM) the shorter the wait.
Can we go through the attractions, more than once, on the same ticket?
No. The ticket is valid for one time through each purchased attraction. However, you may purchase additional entry tickets at the Merchandise Booth inside the compound.
How long does it take to go through each attraction?
In the House of Horror and The Chamber, some patrons might run through while others take their time. Depending on how brave you are, the average trip through the House of Horror takes approximately 20 minutes. Most of our guests are trapped in The Chamber for an average of 15 minutes. The Haunted Hayride and the Zombie Paintball Safari will take approximately 20 to 25 minutes. These estimates do not include wait time.
Are dogs or pets allowed?
Service animals are permitted into The Scream Zone; all others will need to stay home where they are safe from our ghouls.
Is The Scream Zone ADA accessible?
Yes. The Scream Zone is wheelchair accessible. There may be some areas where it is difficult to maneuver a wheelchair; in those areas we typically provide a bypass.
Are cameras or recording devices allowed in The Scream Zone?
Cameras are allowed in The Scream Zone compound, but no picture-taking or video recording is allowed inside an attraction.
Will the actors touch us? Can we touch them?
No. As you walk through The Scream Zone our zombies and ghouls will appear and disappear, and come very close, but they will not intentionally touch you. Please do not touch the actors.
Are the attractions the same this year?
No. We change our layout and design every year. If there are audience favorites from the past, we try to incorporate them in the new layout.
Is there security?
Yes. All of our rooms are monitored by security and video cameras for the safety of our patrons and actors. Lighters, alcohol, or anything that could be considered a weapon are not allowed on The Scream Zone property. Patrons will be scanned by metal detecting devices prior to entering The Scream Zone compound.
Can we wear costumes?
Costumes, yes, but masks are not allowed inside the compound.
May I bring my own supplies for Zombie Paintball Safari?
Patrons will not be allowed to bring their own paintballs or paintball equipment, including guns.
Is it really scary?
Yes! The Scream Zone attractions feature live actors, loud noises, flashing lights, and other scary elements designed to scare the "yell" out of you! We do not recommend the House of Horror for children younger than 10, pregnant women, or those sensitive to strobe lights, artificial fog, loud noise, or dripping natural elements.
How is The Scream Zone rated, or is it like the other haunted attractions in San Diego?
We're partial, so of course we think we're the best! However, we do encourage you to visit the other haunted attractions in San Diego. Heck, we are all only around once a year, and each attraction has something different to offer.
Is there a waiting area inside?
Yes. You do not need a ticket to access The Scream Zone compound. If you need to drop off your kids, but don't feel like waiting for them in your car, you can come in, enjoy the atmosphere, and watch the brave souls run screaming out of each attraction. Our facility has two full service bars, several food vendors, and a brand new Zombie Shooting Gallery. Keep in mind that to go through each attraction, you must have a ticket, so stop by the Box Office before you go in.
Are food and beverages sold inside the venue?
Yes. We have two full service bars and several food vendors.
